Last Monday at work my single girl friend asked, "so how was your weekend?" I'm sure it was the standard polite question (not really wanting to hear the ear full that she did about my fight with Jorge)...but nonetheless she listened. Her reply was, "after talking with my married friends it seems like marriage is a lot of work."
After having been married for over 7 years I would have to agree.
It makes sense that marriage would be a work in progress. After all you have to figure out how to live with someone and get use to their wet towel being thrown on the floor or their dirty dishes in the sink- that they could have placed in the dishwasher that was only inches a way.
But when you're young (23) and in love you don't think about compromise or having to put someone else's needs before yours. You just know you want to spend the rest of your lives together..not really even knowing what that entails. What you end up doing is taking them for granted and not letting them know how much you love and appreciate them.
Do you think I love washing 6 loads of laundry and folding all the clothes and putting them up?....NO! Do you think he loves mowing and weed eating in 90 degree weather?....NO! So, when someone does a "chore" it's nice to acknowledge them and say thank you-or at least the "yard looks great" or "so glad my clothes are clean."
And having kids is just a whole different level. When you're married with no kids it might be easier to drop the D Bomb...but having kids makes it almost impossible. I always said I wouldn't get a divorce unless he beated or cheated, I don't think I could ever forgive those...
I can't imagine getting a divorce and having him find another women to be their "step mom." YUCK! I don't want to divide my time with the kids or share weekends.
So, when you're married you make it work, for better or for worse, right?! Do I think marriage is a work in progress? Yes. It's a lot of give and take and compromise...even when you really don't want to.
For the young and married out there:
1.Please watch your words because you can't take them back. Even when you apologize the other person is always going to remember what you said to them or what you called them.
2. Say thank you. No matter how big or small the deed was.
3. Say I love you. Morning. Noon. and Night.
4. Say I'm sorry when you know you are in the wrong.
5. Tell them they are beautiful. Not just when they are dressed up, but when they wake up at 5 AM and haven't put their make up on.
6. Tell them you need them and couldn't imagine your life without them..who doesn't want to feel needed?
7. Never go to bed angry. No one knows when our last day on Earth is. Why take the chance?

I just ordered some really cute things from Shutterfly for my hubby and dad for Father's day this year. I love their website because everything can be personalized. You can take those pictures that you always forget to develop and turn them into something special. Check out one of the projects I did.

Life Changing
Okay all of you blog followers, I know it's been awhile since my last post...3 months to be exact. I only blog when I am passionate about something or I am trying to make you laugh with a pregnancy/mommy story. This entry is filled with PASSION.
As most of you know I have been an avid runner for about a year and a half now. I lost all of my baby weight and more. I became hooked, and I continue to clock many miles a week, BUT I didn't have any energy. I was just in a routine...running to stay thin, not really running because I loved it. Working full time, taking care of 2 small children and trying to be an athlete is extremely exhausting. I would have 2 cups of coffee every morning and a coke zero for lunch...UNTIL this week. A friend of mine introduced me to Advocare and it has changed my life (I know that sounds dramatic, but I mean it). I am currently participating in the 24 day challenge through Advocare. (You know I love the word challenge!) It intrigued me from the beginning. The first 10 days are a cleanse with fiber drinks, energy drinks and vitamins. The last 14 days are focused on adding more energy, controling appetite and losing weight/toning (with delicious meal replacement shakes, not chalky Slim Fast ones). I started 5 days ago and I have NOT had one cup of coffee or one sugary soda!! That is huge for me. I have SPARK, their energy drink in the morning and again in the afternoon when I get home from work. I'm taking vitamins that make me alert and fiber drinks that help regulate me. (Everyone's heard of the word cleanse...) but I truly feel clean and full of energy. I usually wake up in the morning at 6-after hitting the snooze button, now I have been waking up at 5:00 for morning workouts, feeling AMAZING!
I was hesitant at first, because I didn't want to pay the money (I am very frugal). But I am so glad I did. I liked the products so much that I became a distributor so I can sell the products and get a discount on the ones I buy for myself. The products sell themselves! If you don't want to do the 24 day challenge, you don't have to. You can just try the SPARK or the vitamins, or the meal replacement shakes...the challenge is nice because it lets you sample a little bit of everything. Our "Un-fine" dining experience
Before I write my restaurant review from tonight's dining experience I have to preface it by saying that Chuys is still my favorite restaurant, and their food is wonderful! I met my husband at Chuys, we both worked at Chuys, and their food is always fresh and amazing...but tonight was the worst service I have had in a long time, maybe ever at any restaurant, so I had to write about it.
We all 4 walk into Chuys and are seated at our table. I walk to the bathroom to wash my hands, and as I walk in a waitress is combing her hair with her fingers (kind of like Marsha Brady,"999, 1000.") If you've seen the movie that's the number Marsha counts to as she's brushing her hair. This girl is "combing" her hair before I wash my hands, as I am washing my hands, and still as I leave the restroom.
As I return to our table and we are waiting for our server for what seems like 5-10 minutes. I assume we were accidentally sat in a closed section until "Marsha" from the bathroom comes to take our order. Lucky us...hopefully she washed those hands. We give her our drink and food order at the same time (and she writes down our order-or at least she's moving her pen on the pad).
She returns in about 8-10 minutes with our drinks. She sits the kid's drinks down and I ask her which one is the water and which one is the milk...neither...oops they were both lemonades. This keeps getting better.
Once our food arrives, none of our 3 orders were correct. He ordered a Comida Deluxe (Which is a combination platter with a little bit of everything) and got enchiladas. I ordered a #3 with Deluxe Tomatillo sauce (and it came with the wrong sauce, not a big deal), the kids ordered chicken tenders with fries and mac n' cheese and didn't get their mac n cheese, no extra plate to share either. However, she didn't run our food, so she didn't know that our order was incorrect, nor did she ever ask, "how is everything, or "everything look ok," or "do you need anything else." Luckily we have a friend who works there and he helped us out and corrected our orders. I even thought maybe they ran the wrong food, so when I saw her I asked, "what did you order for my husband", and she replied "cheese enchiladas." So that theory was out the window.
I think by this time she was completely embarrassed because she never came back for refills or pre-bussing of any kind.
This experience sucks for a few reasons.
#1, She wasn't new-one would have hoped she was at this rate
#2, Jorge and I have both waited tables for many years, and we were bad ass servers, so we expect good service when we go out
#3, We hardly ever go out to eat, maybe 2 times a month, so when we do it's really disappointing to have a bad "date night."
I'm not one to complain to a manager, but I hope we never get sat in her section again.
